Iran: Mahmoud Mehrabi- sentenced to death for social media posts

The Iranian regime’s blood lust against dissidents continues unabated. The Islamic fundamentalist and reactionary regime has been ramping up executions, death sentences and repression against women, national minorities and workers. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), executions have more than doubled in the past two years, with 767 people executed in the year ending March 2024.

On Monday, May 6th, Branch No5 of Esfahan’s Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced Mahmoud Mehrabi, a political prisoner in jail for his social media posts, to death. Mahmoud Mehrabi is accused of “corruption on earth,” “anti-regime propaganda,” “insulting the Supreme Leader” and other anti-regime charges. According to Mehrabi’s lawyer, Babak Farsani, the court issued the death sentence with no detailed justification.

Mahmoud Mehrabi was first arrested in February 2023 and briefly released on bail in April 2023.

The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the arrest, continuing detention and death sentence of Mahmoud Mehrabi, and calls for his immediate and unconditional release. We urge all trade unionists, socialists and other political activists to help us in defending the rights of all workers, political prisoners and social rights’ activists in Iran.

Mahmoud Mehrabi now!
Free all political prisoners in Iran!
