The Revolutionary Socialist Movement (RSM), wholeheartedly supports the African Action Congress (AAC) in the February 21 Area Council Elections. The AAC presents the following candidates
- Isah Lawal Boyi- Kabusa ward
- Kenneth E. Ochogwu- Orozo ward and
- Usman Sydney- Pai ward
AAC candidates have made a clear commitment to the working people, youth, women, traders, artisans, farmers, and marginalized residents of our Area Council.
Our goal is simple: to return political power and public resources to the people.
For too long, governance at the local level has been dominated by corruption, godfatherism, inflated contracts, poor service delivery, and anti-people policies. The AAC stands for a radical departure from this system. We stand for democratic control, social justice, accountability, and people-centered development.
This election is not just about winning seats — it is about building a new political culture rooted in equality, dignity, and collective progress.
OUR CORE PRINCIPLES
- Public resources must serve the majority, not political elites or contractors.
- Citizens must actively decide how their communities are governed.
- No secret budgets, no hidden contracts.
- Support for cooperatives and collective economic structures.
- Equal opportunities regardless of gender, class, religion, or ethnicity.
OUR PEOPLE’S PROGRAM FOR THE AREA COUNCIL
- TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNANCE
- Monthly public disclosure of council allocations and expenditures.
- Open budgeting processes with community participation.
- Establishment of Community Budget and Project Monitoring Committees.
- Quarterly town hall meetings in all wards.
- Zero tolerance for corruption and misuse of public funds.
We will open the books of government to the people.
- JOB CREATION AND LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
- Prioritize direct labour, artisans, and youth for council projects.
- Launch public works programs to address unemployment and build infrastructure.
- Promote and support community cooperatives for traders, farmers, and small businesses.
- End illegal levies and multiple taxation on petty traders.
- Provide public skills acquisition and vocational training programs.
We believe economic development must be collective and inclusive.
- QUALITY EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE
Education:
- Renovation and rehabilitation of public primary schools.
- Provision of basic learning materials.
- Advocacy for improved teacher welfare and accountability.
Healthcare:
- Upgrade primary healthcare centers.
- Ensure availability of essential drugs.
- Expand maternal and child health programs.
- Regular community health outreach initiatives.
Education and healthcare are rights, not privileges.
- INFRASTRUCTURE AND BASIC SERVICES
- Transparent road construction and drainage projects.
- Solar-powered street lighting to enhance safety.
- Regular waste collection and sanitation programs.
- Community-managed water supply systems.
- Flood control and environmental protection measures.
Infrastructure must serve communities, not enrich contractors.
- YOUTH AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
- Establish public youth development and innovation hubs.
- Support women-led cooperatives and small businesses.
- Create safe and free recreational and sporting facilities.
- Promote, dignified work opportunities for young people and women.
- Strengthen policies against gender-based violence.
No society can progress while excluding its youth and women.
- AFFORDABLE MARKETS AND HOUSING
- Develop low-cost, well-organized market spaces.
- Improve sanitation and security in markets.
- Advocate cooperative housing schemes.
- Protect residents from exploitative rent practices where legally possible.
- No to double taxation.
We stand with traders, workers, and tenants.
- COMMUNITY SECURITY THROUGH SOLIDARITY
- Strengthen and support community safety committees.
- Encourage collaboration between residents and security agencies.
- Engage youth in constructive community programs to reduce crime.
Security is strongest when communities are united.
- ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
- Regular environmental sanitation programs.
- Drainage maintenance to prevent flooding.
- Tree planting and green initiatives.
- Promote recycling and waste management education.
A clean environment is a public responsibility.
OUR COMMITMENT TO DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION
No social change can come from the establishment. For any meaningful progress, the people must get organized and fight. The RSM supports AAC’s commitment to:
- Ward assemblies where residents set development priorities.
- Participatory budgeting processes.
- Community oversight of all projects.
- Continuous consultation with civil society and grassroots groups.
We reject top-down governance. People must have a decisive and not just consolatory vote in all important political decisions.
A NEW POLITICAL CULTURE
Our elected councilors will:
- Live modestly and reject excessive privileges.
- Remain accessible to constituents.
- Provide regular balance sheet reports.
- Be subject to party and community accountability mechanisms.
Leadership is service, not enrichment.
A CALL TO ORGANIZE AND TRANSFORM
This manifesto is not just a promise; it is a program of struggle for social transformation.
The Revolutionary Socialist Movement supports African Action Congress call on all residents to:
- Organize in your wards
- Participate in community decision-making
- Defend public resources
- Vote for accountable, people-centered leadership
Together, should build a movement that stands opposed to the establishment and the economic interests behind it, and works on building a political alternative to capitalism.
For all the above measures to take flesh, a clash with those who have amassed wealth on the laborer’s backs is necessary. We fight against the capitalist system, for a truly socialist society that is run by workers and for workers.
