Iran: Razi Petrochemical workers end 19-day strike

On August 26th, Razi Petrochemical Company’s contractor workers suspended their strike after 19 days.

As workers protested outside the company’s headquarters, their representatives met officials from Khuzestan province’s governor’s office, Mahshahr’s MP, and company managers inside. At the meeting, an increase in the Petrocard allowance and some cost-of-living benefits were agreed, and the local MP promised to pursue the workers’ other demands. Following this agreement, the workers suspended their strike.

So far, August’s wages have not been paid yet.

Harassment and intimidation

Intimidation of workers has been a central tactic of management throughout the Razi Petrochemical workers’ strike. On the same day as the meeting, the Iranian regime’s judiciary issued court summonses for 75 of the complex’s workers.

The company’s security guards also barred yet another three protesting workers, Saeed Bazdar, Meysam Bagheri, and Fazel Saadouni, from entering the company’s premises. Previously, Javad Rashedi and Ahmad Asakereh were banned from entering the complex after being arrested and serving five days in prison. This brings the total of banned workers to five.

The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the arrest and continuing harassment of all Razi Petrochemical workers.
